- 8pm - So... yeah, I have been even worse than slack. We've been
mulling over different ideas as to what is holding the system back,
where we need to head now, etc... and here's the plan.
We're
losing the 1 way valve (Next weekend) in favour of a converted
Throttle body, initially pneumatically controlled at the same time
as the bypass valve triggers, in order to open and close access to
the intake system for the Big turbo. Basically, at the point we want
the big turbo to enter the intake stream, at that time it's
currently flowing air straight out the bypass valve, the new valve
will snap open, and at the same time, the bypass closes, redirecting
all that flow straight through the new valve and into the intake
system.
We
did some work on the weekend on the new valve, adding an actuator to
it, which proved to be more work than expected, given current engine
bay room constraints. ;)
Stupid
bonnets.
That
and a nice new bend off the big turbo (with a larger diameter yay)
will certainly help increase flow and make it much easier for us to
control the changeover of turbos... no more of this fluctuating
boost as the big turbo tries to push through the 1 way valve, as you
saw in the old video of the system working (see the boost gauge
rising and dropping, hehe)
Unfortunately
I forgot to take a photo of the new valve after all the work, it
looks like a masterpiece, and for awhile there was even looking
largely "stock". ;) Everything fits together so perfectly,
you'd never know it wasn't.
For
those of you who've been wondering whether the project has been
stopped, or where it's at... well, it's definitely not stopped.
Honestly being so busy and so happy to have the car actually running
at a decent power (350RWHP @ 0.8 bar), it's made me somewhat
reluctant to take it off the road again. ;)
Still,
in the interest of finishing this project, getting the power I want,
AND satisfy the continuing curiosity of all you guys who keep asking
me what's going on... we're determined to get it finished, because,
well, a laggy 350rwhp isn't what I was after (far from it, the car
was way faster than that before, haha) :)
I
have just recently been over in Sydney, and picked up a nice digital
camera... so I will get some more photos soon!
The
plans for the coming weekend? Lots of intake system work as we cut
out the 1 way valve and fit in the new one. This involves the new
bend off the big turbo, now 2.5" instead of 2", the new
valve, its meeting with the little turbo's outlet piping and joining
into the 3" piping down to the intercooler. In addition to
this, we may end up putting an AVC-R onto this valve to help us
control it for the most effective turbo switchover.
Plans
for the near future -
Installation
of Greddy Emanage
Retuning
of car to 450-500rwhp on Emanage.
Sequential
TT Tuning at 450-500rwhp point.
Plans
for the post-near future -
Custom
designed and developed fuel system, utilising 1000cc injectors.
Upgraded
/ built Auto transmission, either upgraded standard box, or TH400 GM
Auto box.
Possibly
a new plenum/twin throttle setup for the intake.
700-800+RWHP
with Sequential TT tuned and working. :)
So,
there's the news for the time being!
Will be in touch,
Jason
